How can I convince My boss about security with this software.

We are at a bank and they do not like to bring in new or free software because they don’t trust it. They are very Paranoid. What could I do do change their mind.

Thanks

Also do a quick search on the community a few people have asked about this, its very secure, and can use https to encrypt it

Sometimes references help. We are an OCC audited, nationally chartered bank. Send me a PM if you want to discuss some of their concerns.

It is software that you run yourself. So securing it is just like securing any other web app on your network.

We also have security concerns in our company since we deal with healthcare information so if you want a second opinion feel free to PM me as well.

If I read you right Keith, part of the issue is that the software is from an unknown source (e.g. nobody ever got fired for buying IBM). You mentioned they also don’t like free software. Is that because they wouldn’t have anyone to take legal liability in the event of a compromise? Is this more about the security of the software, or the support and legal issues surrounding a free product?

Once “free” software isn’t trusted, there is really little that you can do. You really just need to get IT professionals running the department. There is little that shows off a lack of understanding of software, IT, human nature or common sense than thinking that the cost of software relates to its quality.

If my boss ever said that I’d be looking for a better job the same day.

It’s no different than if they said “I don’t trust this software, I paid too much for it.” How does their inability to bargain a good price make the software trustworthy or untrustworthy?

SpiceWorks will sell the software commercially too. Just get them to get the paid version. Apparently by paying for something that is also free it will solve the problem?

Every Wall Street bank and every international bank uses free software to run the bankbone of the bank. When little local banks get scared of running the financial industry standard platforms because they don’t understand how IT works you know that you have a serious issue!

S.A.M. did it! The fall of western civilization and the End of Days will all be S.A.M.'s fault! Panic!

@OP:

Use the https integration, force users to go to the portal as their default landing (a setting in advanced), and would you kindly ask your admins to only use https as well. (BioShock reference there!).

This was just a test run for 2012. The end of the world starts on Wall Street!

Did you manage to get this worked out? If so, can you mark the Best Answer and any Helpful posts?

Did you manage to get Spiceworks approved for your company?
