Hi Community,

I’m a newbee in Spiceworks and I Would to know if there is a way to scan Hardware and Software on all my computers (members of different AD domains, on different locations) without :

  • Installing any agent
  • Installing any additional “data collector”

In fact a solution like a portable agent (or simple running of an exe).

I seen most of previous exchanges on this topic, but not a solution to my problem :

In my company, there is already a product in place to do software delivery (with an agent), it is not allowed to install any additional product except thoses provided through this tool, but in the case of a big project, I have to provide an inventory of all client computers (vendor, model, ram, hdd, os, etc) and installed applications (vendor, product, version, nb of install per version, etc), everything per location (here I could manage it by myself).

For my side the solution would be to simply run an exe from a network share (or an usb key) then let users (or my dear local IT colleagues) run IT to get the inventory in Spiceworks.

I unfortunately tried to make the agent portable with Cameyo but it is not efficient (can’t run by simply run “Spiceworks Agent Service.exe” : it needs to let register a service witch can’t be then stopped easily after the inventory is done).

Many thanks

Welcome.

Not sure I am following here. You want to collect data from computers but don’t want to install anything? In order for Spiceworks to collect data, you have to have Spiceworks installed on at least 1 computer to act as the Spiceworks Server. That will collect data from computers that are on the same network.

In order to collect data from computers on a remote network, you would have to have either another separate install of the Spiceworks desktop or add a remote collector on another Spiceworks server. I would look into the remote collector, rather than the agent.

To clear things up:

Spiceworks Agent - used for individual computers, like laptops, that are off the network.

Remote Collector - used for a secondary site/network that relays information back to the main SW Desktop
