OK I will start off by saying that I inherited the Spiceworks install when I started about 4 months ago. I had little contact with it prior so I have searched and read about it as much as I have time to. What I know is that I can download a 1GB file faster than I can do almost anything in spiceworks. When I initially open it, the logon screen opens in a flash but once logged in, nothing is fast and it is quite frustrating! I have read many threads on this but most lead me nowhere and they are all over a year old with older versions.

I am using the latest version, 7.5.00093 on a virtual server WIN 2008R2 64 bit standard with SP1 and all updates. Dual Xeon 2.5GHz processors, allocated 60GB HDD with 28GB free, 8GB of memory and absolutely nothing else on it but Spiceworks.

The spiceworks.exe*32 is always using up about 50%

I have stopped all scans for a week and tried many different things from other threads on high CPU usage.

We have 905 items on the network and spiceworks says there are 150 unknowns.

We use the Inventory and the ticketing system, with one collector that is a Dual core AMD processor server 2008r2 SP1 and 16 GB of memory running server 2008r2 SP1 and 16GB of mem

Because I was not here for the initial install and config, I do not know if that may be part of the issue. I am about ready to start over from scratch but the ticketing system has about 2000 tickets that I do not want to lose.

Any thoughts or direction to any other discussions or configuration and tweaking would be of great appreciation.

Get rid of the 4x 2000 scans. More than 254 devices per scan will kill performance.

Also move the Network Monitor. Running the helpdesk/ticketing app on the same server as the network monitor is not supported – for reasons like this.

Also disable AV temporarily, just to see how it’s impacting performance.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

How is your scanning set up on that machine? One big group scan? Multiple smaller? If multiple smaller, how big are they, and are they scanning at the same time? How much of that does the remote collector handle?

You say just Spiceworks. That means just the helpdesk/inventory app, correct? No network monitor?

If you disable scanning, how does performance change?

{"@type":"Person
big-green-man
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/big-green-man"}},{"@type":"Answer

How is your scanning set up on that machine? setup small groups with about 20 doing 254 IP’s and 4 doing 2000… all scheduled to kick off one hour apart. Half on Mon & wed, half on Tue & Thur. set for every 6 hours.

How much of that does the remote collector handle? About 20 to 25%

That means just the helpdesk/inventory app, correct? No network monitor?

I am sorry there is a network monitor for just the servers. every 5 minutes.

If you disable scanning, how does performance change?

The performance is just slightly better, the CPU will go lower than 50% but as soon as you do anything in spiceworks it jumps right back up… just going from tickets to inventory screen can take a minute plus. But I can also say that even with the scanning going you can edit and create tickets and there is only a minimal delay. But trying to do anything but tickets is just depressing! I should of added that before!

ALSO! There is an antivirus installed…

{"@type":"Person
mikeahrens2
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/mikeahrens2"}},{"@type":"Answer

So can I have 25+ , 254 scans?

Should we make the remote collector do all the scans and network monitoring?

Also disable AV temporarily, just to see how it’s impacting performance.

There is no AV now and I will get back to you on the performance.

Thank you for your help!

{"@type":"Person
mikeahrens2
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/mikeahrens2"}},{"@type":"Answer
