We are currently utilizing Spiceworks Version 7.5.00107, and despite its age, it remains operational.

However, we are curious about potential issues that may arise if we continue to use this version of Spiceworks. Presently, the sending and receiving of notifications within the Helpdesk Platform are functioning as expected.
We would greatly appreciate any insights or feedback you can provide on the potential challenges we may face by sticking with this version. Thank you for your assistance.

It wont email once basic auth is disabled by your vendor.

It’s several years old, out of support and vulnerable without any future fixes.

While it does what you want, you need to secure it and keep it away from the internet where you.

Update [Nov 9, 2023]: As a part of the continued degradation of supporting services for the Desktop app, on Dec 1, 2023, we will take services offline, impacting the below functionality on all Desktop apps.

Desktop apps will be unable to generate alert notification emails or any other emails currently being sent by Spiceworks mail services.

Desktop apps will be unable to authenticate using Spiceworks authentication services (you will be unable to add new Desktop app users, register new installations of the Desktop app, manage/reset user passwords with Spiceworks authentication services).

Desktop app will be unable to install shared plugins, shared reports, or shared language packs from the Spiceworks App Center.

There may be other unanticipated effects on Desktop apps, potentially including impacts to core functionality. As we communicated in Dec. 2021, we recommend migrating off of the Desktop application.

I feel I should add some additional information.

While this may still work for you, and may indefinitely, it’s old, out of date software that puts your business at risk, the longer you run it, the more risk you have.

I would be looking for other products if the cloud helpdesk is not your option, just from a security perspective.
