Hello Spiceworks community. I’m starting out in IT with an A.S. in comp science, recently got my Net+/CCNA certifications and I’m looking to jump into the workplace. Where can I find work that would be good for me to jump start my career. Thanks in advance for help given.

Have you tried posted in the jobs section or are you simply looking for advice?

Do you have a specific area you want to work in?

Based on certs I assume networking?

Where you find work depends upon where you are looking: glassdoor, monster. careerbuilder, dice, are just a few places you can try right off the bat

Your local craigslist might have some openings as well.

The CCNA will get you the interview, but without some kind of experience, you’ll have to either do an internship or two or find an entry level networking job. If you can’t find a paying job in networking, get some other job and keep looking for internships while doing something else to pay the bills.

Eventually the internship experience will begin to get you beyond the initial interview to your first full-time networking job.

I haven’t tried posted but I will, thanks Rod-IT and yea I want to be in the networking field. I feel once I get my foot in the door I will be able to see a more clearer career path wether security or cloud, etc.
Rob2964, I have been looking at some of those avenues(and will explore the others right away) and internship seems to be the way to go. I’m not apposed to them I mean how can I be without any experience. Thanks for your replies guys!

Security field is extremely hot right now.

Your first stepping stone may be a help desk / IT tech position. That is ok and where most of us start… Getting the “2 years experience in the field” requirement out of the way for your next ladder rung up. Good luck.

Thanks JoshuaRex. Will do. I’ll keep all you guys posted on progress. I saw some postings on craigslist that seem to be a fit. Thanks for your guidance guys!!! I like the feel of this whole Spiceworks medium. Cheers!

indeed is another great one. Be careful of craiglist postings though. You might end up at some random guys house…

I’ve had very good luck with indeed and dice.com

There are so many ways you can approach this. One good way is to find said place you want to work for. Do some google searching in your Zip code. Do you want to work at a data center or msp for example? Then call them and ask about any openings even if you talk to internal IT department. If yes, freshen up your resume, put on a fresh suit and walk right in there asking to speak to hiring manager or IT management. Personally deliver your resume along with a firm hand shake saying that your interested in a position within the company and would like to set up an interview. This will get you half way there.
