Hi Guys,
I am looking for a summer work experience placement around Cambridge, can go to London.
I am a 16 year old aiming to be an IT professional in the future. I currently help run my schools computer network, which has allowed me to gain experience with a server 2008 r2 network with hyper-v. This experience has helped me on alot. I am currently studying for my Comptia A+.
I would be greatful if there were any offers of work experience out there, or if you know anyone who would be able to help.
Please feel free to PM me if you want any more information.
Any help with this will be most appriciated.
Luke

Have you asked about the program itself? What will you be doing? Are there any projects that you will be involved in?

Hi Shaun,
I am looking for someone who might be able to offer me a placement, I do not have a placement offer so far, so I don’t know what I’d be doing.
I am just about to finish my GCSE’s and am looking for work experience off my own back for the summer months.
Many thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,
I’m afraid I can’t help with any leads on a placement however I would like to say “well done you” and wish you all the best in your search. That kind of attitude will get you a long way, don’t let any setbacks get you down!
Good luck with your GCSEs.
Cheers
Glen
EDIT: It might be worth your while searching for some companies in your local area and writing to them. Obviously most will use IT to some extent the only tricky part my be finding out whether they outsource or not, their website and vacancies page may help you out there. Once you have a list, order it by your preference and send out your letters. Keep track of dates and responses in Excel, you may pick up a lead or even a placement from there.

I was going to suggest that you register with STEP ( http://www.step.org.uk/ ); but I think that they will say that you are just a bit too young at the moment. They normally provide positions for students that are between 19 - 22 yrs old. However, it probably wouldn’t hurt to ask anyway; and they might find you something.
Having said that, a number of companies do provide for younger students to take part in work experience; though usually only for a week or two.
