We have about 40 Surface Pro 3’s deployed, the first one being deployed about a year and a half ago. Now all of a sudden in the last three weeks, we’ve had three tablets where the batteries appear to be failing/failed. When fully charged they are only holding ~150 mAh (according to powercfg /batteryreport) and only last a few seconds when unplugged before powering off. They all three seem to have dropped suddenly in the reported “full” capacity, loosing several thousand mAh a day. I’ve attached the report from one of our tablets.

We’ve tried firmware updates, reinstalling (Win8.1 and 10), driver updates, hard shutdowns, different chargers, different docks (pro 4 and pro3), different outlets. So my question is if you guys are seeing this issue too, and has anyone found something that worked to fix it.

I have never seen this issue.

Have you tried talking to the Surface Pro support group on the MS website?

Log a support call as it sounds like a hardware issue

Yes - I have exactly the same issue.

Battery started dropping 3000 a week after 13 months usage - showing 513 cycles, totally useless now.

mine started 21st March 2016 dropping 3000 mWh in that 7 days - do you have a similar start time - was it a firmware update, I remember doing a firmware update about then.

I bitched about this on another thread, 18 months is about the average it seems.

$600 CND to get it replaced, and when they send you a replacement, it is Windows 10 - and you have to use a previously saved Windows 8.1 recovery media to restore, AND then use your VL Media to assign it a MAK key, in case you had just been using the retail one previously.

Your symptoms are precisely what we have seen.

I just can’t recommend these devices any longer. They are really nice when they work. Whatever we move to will have a replaceable battery, even if slightly thicker or heavier.

you can add-on a 3 year warranty including the battery when you buy them

Also you don’t need to worry about the MAK activation, you can activate Windows 8.1 on a Windows 10 device by using this hotfix

Yeah, since we found out that we only had a one year warranty on them we started buying the three year warranty. But these were before that point. With the issues we’ve had here with the battery and a bunch of other things, we’re getting in some Surface killers from other companies to see what our options are - and not buying any more Surfaces until we see where this goes.

Hi Could I ask a real favour, and get you to your woes to this thread please http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro3-surfhardware/surface-pro-3-battery-degradation/783f6a00-19ba-4dcf-a828-0ad87751e15a please.

The more people complain the better chance of getting replacements.
