I am looking for a surveillance system that will work well with our school. We currently have a Verkada system and it is working well, but the renewal cost every few years and the camera cost are getting to be higher than I would like. We do not look at the live view often, but use the historical view regularly, often from a cell phone. So what other systems do schools use?

  • Dozens of cameras broken down into zones
  • 30-90 days of backup of high enough quality to recognize students in the halls
  • Easy setup and use of phone app (so non-tech savy administrators can set up thier own phones and use them to investigate issues)

When I worked at an MSP we were resellers of Vivotek & Hikvision systems. I really liked what they had and generally had no major issues with them.

We have Milestone here. It has a mobile app and works with many ip cameras. Most of our cameras are Mobotix. You can reach out to a milestone reseller for more details. Milestone Systems Certified Resellers They are multiple flavors/price levels depending on what bells and whistles you want.

My previous district also used Milestone. It was pretty slick.

Piloted at our high school (1,300 students), with the intent of expanding it district-wide (6,500 students).

I have no idea what my current district uses, though, because I’m not in the formal IT side anymore (13,000 student count).

We use Avigilon, works great for us

I don’t remember what cameras we are using. For the management software we use https://wavevms.com/ . You can use the web interface or the app. We really like it.
