We have standardized equipment and I am in the process of doing documentation for our upcoming audit so i am thinking “Lawful Good”.

Chaotic Good is my entire world. We come up with ways of making things work all the time but don’t know how we did it. Documentation? Who has time for that? Can anyone find it or read it? Most of all the documentation needs to make sense in order to use it. Rather look like a superhero than someone who has to consult a book. The more Chaos the harder it looks to the user. This way one can claim they can make anything work even if it is just a typewriter no one has used in 20 years. You could also say chaotic Evil creeps in a little too.

My IT Director only purchases what is on sale so we have a HUGE variation in makes and models. Plus, she is an easy sell. I don’t care how much documentation and opinions I show her about a device, she will always come back and say “Well, the sales person said it was good and it will do what we need.” Which is usually followed by a “I hate this! We should have never got it”

Can I talk to her? I have a “Cloud” to sell her. The sale won’t last long though. (It’s supposed to rain…)

went with neutral good. My cabling is not gorgeous. Not from a lack of trying, but my boss goes into my data room and messes things up. I gave up long ago.

Lawful Neutral for me. Gently (and with more grace than just saying RTFM every time) encouraging the user base to do what’s on the instructions I sent them is about as far as I go. It’s not my job to teach people how to use a computer; it’s my job to make sure the computers are capable of doing what they’re configured to do for the workload.

I saw it somewhere else on Spiceworks… “Hardware and software is [my] domain. Wetware [humans] is another department.”

I know this thread is old, but I can’t believe more people don’t put themselves in the Chaotic Good box. As a one-man IT department, I feel like this is our natural alignment. We kinda do everything on the fly, and any documentation is rather messy and unorganized, but you can’t stop to write or type when you’re juggling 7 flaming balls at once.

Edit: yeah, the irony isn’t lost on me…

I’m sorry, but my alignment isn’t just one of these. I’ve seen myself span from good to evil multiple times wafting through lawful, neutral, and chaotic, sometimes in the span of moments or weeks depending on the user/issue at hand.

I could put on my own puppet show and laugh at my own jokes, but that’s a different story.

Most of the time I think I’m lawful with neutral tendencies, but if someone is pushing my buttons I have no problem pulling out the policy books to their manager, but that’s very rare. Most of the time I’m the translator and figure out ways to talk to the average user so they get a better idea of what and why we do things so they will talk to us…even if that means saying “Yes I know you just rebooted, but we need you to do it one more time because…”

I love my job and most the users, but…there are those users that range from just hired to C level that can really push the right buttons at times.

It all depends on how the users comes to me… a “Hey you I need help” will receive evil and depending on tone the more evil it becomes, to a “hey buddy” get a neutral because not sure the trouble about to happen, to a lawful neutral for the kind, respectful, grandmotherly (or edible food gift bearing) user. Changes daily/hourly depending…
