Got this in the Mailbox today…

Considering the current rate

I am not surprised some peoples greed would make them fall for it.

Still not the worst spam I have had yet

I think Spiceworks should have a weekly competition where we judge who has had the best spam of the week and they get points on their profile or something similar. What do you guys think?

I am unsure who to tag in on this from Spiceworks.

Have a good day all

i think what is more likely to make this e-mail fail is that anyone who knows what bitcoins are will more than likely be tech savvy. Those who would normally fall for such things won’t know what the exchange rate for bitcoins is (or that there is such a thing), so greed won’t be a factor - in theory anyway!!

There will always be the odd few who fall for it though, and that’s why they use the scattergun approach!

I saw a couple yesterday that I was impressed with, though I spotted them right away. The message has an entire VALID thread between the recipient and someone else from about a week previous. The message is from someone else affiliated with the company (also valid) stating that person wanted them to look at something else in an attached Word document. The Word document is a picture of an ‘Office365’ screen, stating they need to ‘Allow Editing’ in order to gain access.

The only thing that saved these employees is there WAS no ‘Allow Editing’ prompt. Some of them even tried REALLY hard, enlisting the aid of some computer-savvy co-workers, to try to get the things open! They all looked pretty sheepish when I told them the bad news… But I would LOVE to know how the senders go their hands on an actual Email thread between two parties. The Email itself was sent through a relay service, from what I would presume to be a hacked account from yet another company name that we recognized…

Reverse psychology. “I don’t even want your money… Here, take mine!”

I’d fail at this competition because I…

This is another one of those crappy cryptocode scams. Like the binary options stuff of old. Seen it before. Ironically Launder Steedman is an actual company by the looks of it. Wonder if it originated from their account?

Goes to cryptocode.online

Yea its shut up and keep your money.

If you don’t want bitcoin, I’ll take it

I’ve gotten some very questionable spam. Sometimes, it makes me wonder who actually falls for it.

My favourite way of dealing with spam is to forward it to sp@mnesty.com

It’s a spam bot that replies to spam. Pure genius!
Have a look/giggle at their website
Spamnesty.com

I think that is actually what makes this perfect, since bitcoin took off there is a lot of dangerous half-knowledge out there, it’s basically a gold rush.
