I found a discussion here, it has buttons for commenting and rating other users replies. I go ahead and try. It makes me sign up. Then I go back to the article. All the rating buttons are gone, comment is impossible. It says it’s been locked by an admin like forever ago. So you just had me sign up under false impression that I would be able to interact with the discussion. Nice fraud.

Sounds to me like a bug. I think you’ll find value in this website though - there are a lot of technical people sharing ideas and opinions. I know I’ve learned a lot reading the comments and suggestions of others.

Idk any decent website that will let you comment without creating an account.

That doesn’t make this site a fraud by any stretch of the imagination, it just makes it a website.

It’s a very useful website with a great community where like-minded IT folks can help each other!

These folks have pulled me out of the fire a couple of times and I am very grateful!

Far from a fraud website. Clear your cookies cache etc.

Also if the thread is locked by admin, consider the scenario you presented…

I would like to interact and comment, but not a user, account creation required: Pretty much all user content sites on the internet, at least the ones you would want to use, otherwise they are spam engines.

Seeing thread is locked by admin AFTER account creation: Why on earth would it be displayed prior since it is meaningless in a connext where you could not participate anyway?

Thread is locked by admin: SOP in all user user content forums, to prevent off topic, rants, superfluous content.

Fraud: Noun “wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.”
What were you charged to sign up?

Past that, welcome to the forum!
Its a lot of point/reputation chasing, and a blatant skim of information for targeted advertising revenue, but so is everything on the internet these days.
…once you get past that, its in general not one of the worst out there.

If you look at the date on the thread (And the notice about why it is locked), you will see that it is an older thread and will most likely have no interaction. You can start a new thread linking to that older thread and you will be able to have interaction. Try commenting on any social media platform without an account and you will have a similar experience.

We automatically lock discussions after a year or so I think, because most of the comments we got after that point were spammers. However, if you tell us what post it is that you wanted to comment on, I could either open it up, or you can make a new post referencing that one and comment anyway… that is probably a better idea, because more people will see a new post than would ever see an old one, but happy to do it the other way if you prefer.

Hi Corky Corky!

Welcome to the Community! About spicing up and rating other community member’s replies, I think that should still be available and the page just may need to be refreshed. Sometimes it still shows like you’re logged out which is a glitch I occasionally see. It typically just takes a refresh to bring it back to showing as logged in.

You can also send in a ticket to community@spiceworks.com, if you have the answer to an old topic for instance, and we can unlock it for a short time so that you can reply.

Also, what Z said above.

If you need help with something, please post a new topic.

If you wanted to mark something as helpful, you should still be able to, but I’m not sure how that would benefit you even if you didn’t need to sign up.

You say it’s fraud, but your topic title questions that.

If your attitude is going to be “nice fraud”, please go elsewhere. Thousands of discussions here, articles, not to mention spiceworks shows up with results for many tech searches, but you came here for a minute and your impression is fraud. This is 100% a you problem.

Sometimes the message can be lost in the delivery.

I am new here, but in the short time I have been active, I have seen many IT professionals share their time and knowledge to help others.

I would try asking a technical question and see what happens.

This level of melodrama is wholly unnecessary.

How do you post a new topic? I do not have the option. Only message and chat buttons.

That’s an interesting assumption you made based on your first impression.

What do you think someone’s first impression of you is based on your first post, where your start your community interaction by calling the site a fraud. Everyone however has bad days, and sometimes frustration gets the better of us. Let’s not jump to insulting a site when something doesn’t work as you expect. A lot of people donate their time here to help others.

Old topics are closed for a reason. If you need to reference it, start a new current topic with your situation and you can link the old one in your post.

Good question. In addition to what Patrick posted above, if you are on a category page, you should see it up at the top, like so:

(This post is in the Spiceworks Support category, so to get to that main category page you can click on the little tag below the title.)

Sadly the poster likely wont see these replies, they’ve not been back since their post.

If you’re referring to spiceworks, it would have helped you more to interact with the admins respectfully instead of making a public comment calling the entire community a fraud.

Oh I know. I was nice about it too
