Good morning Spiceworks community,

I’m struggling to find any best practices / methods / ways people transfer files online directly without the use of FTP or something like Drop Box? The company I work for is looking for users to be able to transfer files offsite to people not on our network, however, my company is not fond of Drop Box, OneDrive, Google Drive, or anything like that. We’re looking for a (preferably free) solution to transfer files directly to people online. We can spin up a server and host whatever necessary, but I can’t find anything online to get this done that isn’t paid $oftware or FTP.

tl;dr:

without dropbox or FTP how can I direct link someone a file that’s too big to transfer via email? Free options preferred.

I was looking at something that could possibly work, although would still require them to download an FTP client… SFTP is what I was looking at

https://www.owncloud.org is what we are currently looking at. It appears to have a lot of promise for us, but we haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.

Thanks guys, seriously helping me out here, we were looking into something with ws-FTP previously but that seems like a fairly complicated and expensive endevour that would still require FTP, will look into the products you’ve both recommended! Have a great day guys

NextCloud is another solutions you can try, various others such as Box, Dropbox, Citrix Sharefile and so forth.
