Hey guys,
I’m working on trying to get a new server up and running for sophos. My problem is that right now the computer that is going to be the server (it’s running windows server 03) is having issues connecting to your network to i can’t join it to our domain. When I release the ip address and attempt to have the dhcp hand out a new one it give the unable to contact error and grabs the same non exsistant ip address of 169.254.37.152. If you guys have any ideas or suggestions. Or more information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Also, check the adapter settings to see what settings are under IPv4. Is this server a fresh build or just one you are reusing?
Wouldn’t you want the server to have a static IP address? You are missing some details - can you elaborate a little bit?

Yes we want the server to have a static ip address. But even when we set it it still doesnt connect to the network. It will say the connection is okay but when you try to do anything (hit the internet, try to look at network drivers, printing) you still have problems. At the moment no, nothing else on the network is having issues with renew\release. The DHCP service is running. And the setting under IPv4 are all set to auto.

Uninstall the NIC driver and then re-install it. What about cabling have you changed it for a known working one?
Yes I know the cable works, I have been using it on other computers. I will uninstall the NIC driver and see what happens. Thanks guys.
Alright, well i’ve uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled it and the same thing. It can’t get an ip from the DCHP and it keeps pulling the address 169.254.37.152

Have you tried a different port? Is there something wrong with the port you are using the moment? Do you have anyway to tone it out end to end

Is this a virtualized server? What’s the hypervisor OS?

Can You ping your dhcp server or any pc on your network if you set that new server with static IP?
If you assign a static IP Address with proper Subnet mask, Gateway and DNS servers for your network (which you as the IT person for your org should know) and you still cannot access resources on your local network or the internet. Then DHCP is really irrelivant and you have a server or network issue.

No it is not a virtual server.
No I cannot ping the server or any local clients. I also can’t ping anything else.
Yes the ip address, subnet mask, gateway and dns are correct.

Did you try toning the port?
Yes I have toned the port and i get a solid signal end to end.
I’ve already tired uninstalling the drive but i think i’m going to try and update it, don’t believe that will help though. I was going to try and see if I could connect wirelessly but I cant find a drive for server 03 for the netgear adapter I have.

Did you toned it with cable tester, to check the cable if all the 8 pins/wire is ok?
Try To use Driver identifier, it’s a good driver scanner tool, very easy to use.
Just my suggestions
