OK…I’m intrigued, but not able to duplicate this with the information provided. Can you specify what fields your are exporting in the MAP?

in a groups database page i would have 2 columns “hours today” and then
“total hours” and
excell could calculate the “total hours” if i did not want to .

“have you written your own operating system yet ?”

From: “Ravi via ms-project-l”

Thanks to the responses from richmepk i was able to successfully export and import back tasks from MSP using Maps

When i import back from MSExcel the project tasks are getting updated to a contraint of “Finish No Earlier Than” … so if i have to increase the task duration it messes up the whole project.

The only change i am making in excel is the hours worked and hours remaining

What do i need to do during the import to make sure it dosent do that

thanks !

Hi Mr.Ravi,
INstead doing all this u can use save as function instead.
Save the project file in excel format. And do necessary
modifications.Andopen the excel file. I think this must solve u r
problem. I am wrong please
correct me.

Thanks and Regards,

Yes they MAP technique allows you to do what you want. There is a =
“merge”
capability which will do this. If you included your email addy I can =
send
you an example of how to do this.=20

thanks for this tip…

Just to elaborate a bit more on the issue… i dont want to import new tasks but just want to import back the worked hours and remaining hours for tasks that are existing in the plan

Can this be achieved by Maps as well…

In the past when i have tried to import from excel it appends the import to the existing plan as new tasks

Yes you can easily do this. Project has a technique called MAPs which allows
this. Just open the Project and then click FileOpen again. Select the XLS
that has the update information. A Wizard will appear which walks you
through the process of getting the task updates applied to the project. You
can Save the MAP so that in the future you can simply apply the MAP
