I have a USG that I want to set up in my home network. I’ve tried factory reset twice and both times, Unifi Cont will not adopt it. All i get is the “Adopt Failed” error. I can’t just swap the USG and my main router because the USG will not find the internet. So now i have the USG connected to a lil 5 port switch, which is then connected to this PC. Unifi sees it but won’t adopt it. what gives…

You are going to have to bite the bullet and swap the USG and your main router. The provisioning process expects it to be the gateway. It probably sees an IP conflict the way you have it and fails the adoption.
Swap in the USG with the router disconnected (or at least powered off and still in place) then try adopting the USG

Make sure your network is defined properly in the Unifi controller first. as those are the settings that will push down to the USG
dangit. guess I’ll have to wait a while.
thank you.

in the network setup make sure you have the proper subnet \ IP Range, DHCP options, DNS options, additional VLAN’s etc. this is the info that will be provisioned to the USG when its adopted.
A centrally managed device like a USG is directly opposite of a stand alone unit in that you can’t plug it in, then configure it. you have to configure it, then plug it in. because as soon as you adopt it it will pull the configuration entered in the controller. If that config is correct then everything works and you are happy. If that config is wrong nothing works as expected and you are unhappy.
One Challenge you may have is your network subnets. the USG is going to default to 192.168.1.20. if that doesn’t match the subnet your Unifi controller is on (assuming its local) then you may have to manually connect to the USG to tell it what IP to use.
ahhh, got it. well, maybe next week when we get our snow storm, I might get a chance to play again.

FWIW - Make sure your device is not on the “OBSOLETE” list. A lot of products were discontinued, obsoleted, and abandoned by Ubiquiti in 2021 - despite there still being a lot of new product available.
