We are looking at deploying a VDI server and I would like to know what licenses I require to do this.

It would be a fresh new server. 2 CPU’s w/ 10Cores and 64Gb RAM (min)
I would put 16 workstations on a server in a pooled VDI.
I believe that I need:
Server 2016/2019 Standard with enough CAL’s for the 20 cores and 16 Users
Remote Desktop License for 16 Users
Windows 10 Enterprise E3 VDA for 16 workstations

The workstations at the users desk are running Windows 10 Pro, but they are a few of years old now.

Thanks

I think your server specs are way to low for 16 VDI instances.

I agree with @essjae on this one that’s awfully low resources for 16 VDI instances (especially for RAM).
Your requirements will also vary greatly based on the software the users will be running in the VDI instance.

Sorry, I happened to miss this conversation when it first came around but it popped back up in my alerts so I thought I’d hop in quickly. Since this would be a fresh server, I’d recommend taking a look at a VDI solution through Scale Computing . We have a couple of strategic VDI partners, but you can also opt to utilize Microsoft RDS. Since this would be managed using HC3 hyperconvergence and virtualization, VDI is super achievable for any size IT department. You’d get a web-based management interface accessible anywhere, high availability (including thin cloning, VM snapshots, and live migration), rolling infrastructure updates, replication, disaster recovery, file-level recovery, and cloud-based DRaaS. If you want more info about Scale and how it could help with this VDI deployment, feel free to reach out and I can get you more info!
