Good day everyone,
Did some checks, seem as if for my HyperV Backups, reverse incremental is the only option recommended to save space.
My management team dont plan to increase/purchase additional space anytime soon.
I am seeing A LOT of VBK, VBM and VIB files, i tell you, just incrementally taking up space. Over the weekend one fullbackup windows server agent job had like 4 vbk files (at various states/dates) with multiple vib backed over time (based on schedule not stipulated by me, but management). The local repo RAN out of space, 0 bytes free. This repo is like 7 TB, small i guess.
Which is the best method you would recommend to save save space for both Hyper V and Windows Agent backups?

They clearly don’t value the business data that much then.
How many days or what number of backups are you keeping on your backup jobs?
Keep only what you need, do forever incremental and not weekly/monthly full, this is old-school.
Look at your backups - do you need to backup all DCs, do you need to back them up every day or is it only crucial parts, do you need daily/nightly backups of all server or can the scheduled be changed.
Perhaps you need an overall look at your backup jobs. Running all systems, every night is legacy and you might want to tweak things a bit.
The business needs to understand though, that backups are more important than they might want to believe.
Are you doing any replica jobs or off-site copies?
If you have multiple full backups because of GFS retention then using Windows ReFS or Linux XFS as your file system to storage backups will dramatically lower storage usage. Or get rid of any GFS retention. XFS also has the benefit of being immutable.
I am interested too. Having to solve a lot of these myself when taking over smaller company deployments.
I already resolved this issue, thank you for all the comments. Thing are running fine. I just modified some settings, compression ratio/level, backup frequency, retention etc
