The Recovery media boots to a PE environment, where you point it at your backup repo, whatever backup you select is what gets restored, the image you boot from is mostly static.

It’s the backup that has the recent data.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

One thing I never tested was whether or not the machine you backed up needs to be active when you create the bare metal .iso?

An example would be, I’m backing up a machine for a few months, machine fails completely so I need to get it back going on a new computer, when I go into Veeam B&R and choose create recovery, does it look for active machine to create .iso?

Or should I be creating recovery’s each time I add a system to my Veeam backups?

{"@type":"Person
SomewhereinSC
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/SomewhereinSC"}},{"@type":"Answer

I will add, the only thing specific to the media will be any drivers for this device, so if it uses RAID or non-standard windows drivers. It needs to be able to boot the device in question, to be able to recover.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

Veeam B&R 12.3
Veeam Workstation for windows backup
Can I backup a physical windows 11 pro pc and if it crashes spin up another physical machine with same hardware specs and be able to restore the backup to it and it work like before?
Or do I need to create a image with veeam if so how ?
How will I keep the image up to date?

There are 2 parts to a Bare Metal Restore Solution like Veeam Agent for Windows…
The Backup Solution
Backup software (Veeam Agent for Windows) installed on the PC or workstation
Backup Repository that can be USB drives or NAS to store Backup Data Sets
The Veeam Recovery Media
This is the CD or DVD used to boot up the PC or workstation in case of hardware storage failures.
The Veeam Recovery Media usually needs to follow the version of the Veeam Agent for Windows Version or have a later version.
You may need to create a new Veeam Recovery Media every time you update or upgrade Veeam Agent for Windows.
