We are using Spiceworks to scan our corporate office and it works great. I need to ask if it is possible to scan the 600 PCs that we have networked across the country via VPN. These are routed through our Sonicwall Router NSA4500. All have 192.168… network addresses. I need to be able to poll those machines also. Any thoughts?

By definition, anything that works on your network will work over a VPN. A VPN is transparent so network services do not know that it is there. So yes, anything on the VPN can be scanned exactly as if it was not on the VPN.

If these are laptop systems that are on and off the VPN you may want to install the agent on some of them as well.

Thanks for the reply. These are Dell PCs that are always on. For some reason, they don’t show up on my network map.
You may need to ensure that you have all of the required ports allowed over your VPN, I’ve seen others who try to do this but forget about checking the ports. Another thing to consider is a remote collector if you have pods of these systems in one location. Give this link a read:
