Can I use spiceworks to monitor remote servers over the internet?

1 Spice up

When you say “monitor” do you mean whether the server is up or down or are you wanting to get full Spiceworks functionality like hardware and software inventory?

If there’s a VPN to the remote network then yes. Simply add the remote VPN network IP range in your Spiceworks scan settings.

If you are unable to set up a VPN, then I don’t think you can, at least I’ve not been able make it work . The problem is trying to route through remote routers an array of protocals and ports that may or may not be routeable.

Sorry if my answer is vague. Perhaps you can provide more detail.

thanks for the answer, spice works is a very interesting idea but looks like its missing the core functionality I am looking for.

Steven644,
A possible solution that might meet your needs is Kaseya http://www.kaseya.com/ .

Our company demo’d it for a couple months and it was very nice. It has the ability to monitor remote networks through an agent that gets installed on systems. Once 1 system on remote network gets the agent, it can then provide options to deploy throughout the entire remote network.

We opted to not to got full time with Kaseya because of cost. It’s expensive and has high annual license fees.
