How can I find out which battery warranty is applicable to a particular UPS?
We have a SMART1500LCD with failed batteries at a customer location. The UPS was installed 4 months ago, but ordered from our distributor 6 months ago.
On the product page for the unit, it says 3-Year Limited Warranty but I can’t find anything about the warranty period on the batteries.
When I searched Eaton’s site, I found a Product Warranty page that says it’s either 6 months or 1 year, depending on product model. But I can’t find anywhere which period applies to the SMART1500LCD.
And the other question then becomes: When does that warranty period start? When it was installed? When it was invoiced to the end user? When it shipped from the distributor (TDSynnex)? or… ?

@mike-eaton

I expect you’ve got this one. :slight_smile:

The battery should have a 1 to 2 year warranty on it. The replacement battery has a 18 month warranty. If mike does not get back to then reach to the Eaton support to get the battery replaced.

I’m not sure of the exact policy but I believe the battery is considered to be part of the UPS. I’d fill out a support ticket here Model Number SMART1500LCD | Eaton or call 773-869-1234 (7 AM - 6 PM CST) You’ll get a faster response if you call.

Most manufacturers base warranty on customer invoice date.

That’s true but APC for example gives 2 years of Warranty for the Battery and 3 year for the battery backup enclosure which is interesting.

For that model I looked up the 5 year extended warranty for it and according to the specs the battery is covered

Just an update on this…
As things turned out, it was NOT an issue with the UPS or the batteries.
The reported issue was that the batteries were not holding a charge. On-site testing showed the UPS performing properly, but the batteries were never getting close to 100% charge.
Fast forward a bit to find out that another vendor installed some camera equipment in the room and unplugged the UPS from the wall and put it into a different outlet… a switched outlet…
I think you can see what happened when the light switch was turned off in the room…

Ouch!

We had a security door get wired to the hallway light circuit…which the janitor turned off every night…It can be fun to find those kinds of issues…
