I actually had to use one of those once when working on London. If I ever managed to upload one line of code without it being scrambled after only two or three attempts, it was a miracle!

The acoustic coupler was designed to work with the standard phone available at the time (70’s). I also remember some time later when a smaller version was produced which should work with any handset since there were plenty of phone designs on the market in the 80’s, although you still had to keep quiet whilst using it in case the mic picked up the extra sounds.
