MS Edge Version 108.0.1462.54 (Official build) (64-bit) (current version) on Windows 10 Pro 64bit

In the past when a connection was not secure I have always seen an option to load the page anyway. In a case where security is not an issue, I have been able to do that.

But now the error message page does not offer an option to bypass it.

The message is:

"The connection for this site is not secure

ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR"

There is no option to proceed anyway.

How can I get Edge to proceed to the page anyway?

Thanks for any help!

If you open the page in Internet Explorer Mode then you will be able to bypass the warning.

It’s my impression that Microsoft doesn’t let you bypass that warning in the standard mode because SSL and even some earlier versions of TLS have been deprecated or obsoleted and are no longer considered to be secure so they are looking to save people from themselves by not allowing them to access a site with relatively weak security. Unfortunately, this also gets in the way of accessing web-based interfaces for various devices where security protocols were secondary to device management. Fortuneately, we still have IE-mode so that we have a browser engine that is functionally compatible with such devices.

It also depends on the site you are hitting. A site has the ability to disallow connections if SSL fails. In this case you lose the advanced >> proceed anyway option the web browser.

What are you connecting to? Is this Network gear with self signed certs or something that should have a trusted cert?

Most of the time this is trying to access like a Firewall or network switch and Chrome does this as well. Usually something to do with your SSL cache or the SSL on the device is expired.

I also have been dealing with this NET ::ERR_CERT_INVALID in Chrome but NOT in Edge Chromium - Chrome Enterprise & Education Community

  • And which undisclosed SSL error do you find in Windows Events for this trial?

When I use MS Edge to access an unsecure website using HTTP instead of HTTPS, I don’t get an ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.

  • So if the undisclosed SSL error indicates a detected MIDM (man in the middle) attack, why do you want to proceed anyway and share your communication with such an unknown attacker, even allowing him to change your data, e.g. by changing the banking account number of the recipient of money transfer on a banking order of a bank?

Thank you for all the responses.

I came up with a solution that worked for me and just want to report it here.

IE mode did not work. It also gave me no option to bypass it.

I tried using a proxy to access the url in my Edge browser and that worked.

I am not concerned about security with this url. There is no private information being exchanged on either end.

Sorry to necropost, but on chromium edge you can type “thisisunsafe” to bypass the warning page. Obviously only do this if you’re sure you’re happy to visit the page - don’t just blindly ignore the warning. Just click somewhere on the page and just type it, it will load the page you requested without the warning

Hope that helps someone.
