I am looking for some industrial style Windows tablets to mount to our fork lifts and pickers. Just about everything I see is in the $$$$ thousands per tablet. I know Linux tablets are much cheaper, but these must run the ERP client software.

Any recommendations? What do you use?

I work on different sites from a major pharma company and it varies. For non ATEX environments they use the Dell rugged series. For the ATEX environments it’s something way more expensive  Those Dell tablets are solid enough for forklifts.

We are using Dell Rugged Laptops for our vehicle installs. I have been looking at their Rugged Tablets for those who need a tablet vs laptop. They aren’t cheap but they really are nice. Gtac and Panasonic Tough are other brands I see people recommending.

I would first see if your ERP have a web interface so that you can use a browser instead of a fat client…

Else does the ERP have a mobile application that can be used on mobile devices like mobile phones or tablets or linux or android …

Only if either the above 2 conditions can be met, then you can decide if you can then move off Windows platform to using another device…coz no use if you can get cheap tablets (like older Samsung or Xiaomi pads) then you cannot use your ERP system ?? We got a great deal on new but obsolete Samsung Galaxy S3 recently (approx 1,200 units) as our ERP was browser based connected via warehouse Wifi…

Those rugged editions are much more expensive for a reason due to the more expensive materials used to produce those and reduced production amounts.

What I have personally witnessed as a valid poor man’s solution are those PVA foam regular tablet cases for children. They grant some surprisingly solid protection, and bright color is extremely helpful in making the tablet more visible and a fabric/storage environment and motivating people to treat it more carefully.

You could possibly use MS’s Remote Desktop Services or Remote Apps and use an iPad or ChromePad (whatever that is)? Then you can use whatever cheap rugged thing you can find and still connect to your ERP

GeTAC and Panasonic Toughbooks are what we use in our Ambulances, they work great, and are a bit pricey, but well worth the investment, if you need a Windows based system to run fat clients.

So two votes for the Dell rugged tablets…

To be fair, we are a Dell shop, so it made good sense for us to stay with Dell. Their drivers outage and update software is one of the best imo. Their support is also fantastic (business support > consumer support I wouldn’t go of LTT for that)

Any other colours available?

Pretty sure there are, but if you need something specific, you can always spray- or dip-paint them using your corporate colors
