As I don’t have to explain to any of you, the “workplace” feels like it’s constantly transforming for IT professionals, especially in recent years. Remote work, flexible schedules, and the constant evolution of technology have blurred the lines between work and life. And it’s safe to say that two workdays aren’t always the same.

Our Community comes from different parts of the world and industries, so I’m curious about work patterns. Are you an early bird, tackling challenges before the sun rises? Or a night owl, resolving issues when others are asleep? Do you adhere to a traditional 9-to-5 schedule, or does your workday shift with the demands of the day?

Vote below and tell us what hours you usually work. And I’m sure others (including myself) would like to hear whether those are your actual scheduled hours, why you work those hours, and any strategic time management tips for the modern workplace you would like to share.

Note that there are two (2) polls below: one for when you start and the other for when you normally end.

Averaging 2 hours a day (including weekends). It’s always 5PM somewhere…

Should rename this thread “What are you official hours in 2025” then have another thread “What are your actual hours in 2025”

Technically I finish at 4:30 but I voted for 4 PM. This may change since on Friday I survived a massive (for a small office) layoff. So I may officially change to a 4 PM departure, or it may just go the opposite way to 5 PM.

I am working 16 hours

Officially my work hours are 8am commencement, 4:30pm clock out.

However, realistically I am usually working from 7:20am to 5pm.

Currently, I am pursuing my ACCA qualification at Mirchawala’s Hub of Accountancy. Alongside my studies, I work part-time as an accountant for 20 hours per week, which allows me to gain practical experience while continuing my education.

I do 9-6, and this is the first place I’ve ever worked that has a 40 hour week. Everywhere else has been 37.5 hours, so 9-5:30. That extra half hour makes a huge difference for commuting, and not so much in terms of work that gets done.

I typically get 45 hours a week. I start at 6 am most days. Three days a week, I end at 4:30 pm and the other two days, I leave at 1 pm.

I’m supposed to be 09:00-17:00, but most of the time I get in just after 09:00 and don’t escape until 17:30, and even later if I end up doing server maintenance.
The annoying thing is whenever I try and burn excess hours (work don’t believe in overtime - I keep telling them it exists, but they appear to think it’s some kind of cryptid) by coming in later or leaving earlier, something happens that means I can’t, or I end up spending longer fixing it the day after that my excess hours increase instead of going down…

I do 7a to 4p with an hour lunch (I’d do a half hour and leave earlier but that just doesn’t ever work, so I take the long lunch since I’ll be there til 4 at least anyway). And so far (5 yrs now) the unwritten/unspoken and so far unquestioned assumption is that if I’m stuck until after 4p (frequently) then I claw back those hours next morning. So if I get scheduled into a mtng that doesn’t end until 4:30, they don’t see me next morning until 7:30 (unless something blows up with an alert earlier than that). Of course that may just be because none of the folks that might think I report to them show up until 8a anyways, but that’s what I run with.

Depends when the coffee runs out. Typically 8 to 5 sometimes need to stay late for projects or travel.

I work East Coast hours in the West Coast. My work laptop is set to ET and my personal is set to PT. It was confusing at first, but I am used to it now. I wish the world would go to a 4-day work week at 10 hours a day. I could use 3 days off every week.

8-5 here officially, but im ussually in at 715 or so depending on traffic. boss believes in work life balance so we do not do extra hours unless absolutely needed

We are expected to be in office M-F 8-5. I usually am here by 7:45 to get all my crap pulled up so I’m ready to go at 8. We normally don’t have to work late and calls are pretty infrequent. There is a good amount of respect for work life balance here.

@7:15 am to 4 pm, though I will often leave early on Friday if I can to keep the overtime as close to 0 as possible as they don’t appreciate it and I don’t need it…many weeks though I’m not getting out early on Fridays so I’m putting in between 42 and 43 hours a week.

Technically I’m 8-5. Since I work remotely 3 days a week, I sign in before 8 and off after 5. The “In office” days I get there at 8:30ish, due to traffic and leave at 4ish on Wednesday, and noon-ish on Friday then finish my afternoon remote. I clock between 40 & 45 hours a week.

37 hours every week 8 am to 4 pm monday to thursday and 8 am to 3:30 pm friday

I have oddball hours that always amount to 40 hours a week plus OT\Oncall Saturdays. 8:30 to 5 4 days a week and 8 to 7 one day a week. With an unpaid hour lunch so technically I’m away from home 45 hours a week (boo).
