We are currently on Kofax and are not happy with the OCR. Its success rate is probably 50%. Also, we found that they are printing invoices just to scan them back in. None of the invoices are formatted in the same way. We know we can update the process in Kofax so that printing is not necessary. But since we are looking to revamp, we thought we could shop around a bit for what else is out there outside of the Hyland realm. The thing is, no matter what the process, we would need to get those images in OnBase. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I can’t help on the scanning side but take a look at PDF printers. You can print to a PDF printer (Windows 10 includes one) and avoid the rescan.

I’m not familiar with the term AP/Tax, but in our office we mostly use Nuance’s Omnipage software for OCR. I don’t know what the success rate is for it though, so I can’t give you much more than the basic information. But the auditors who use it with BankScan haven’t been complaining to me, so it must work rather well, or I would have heard something from them by now (they’ve been using it for 2 years now). I put the Omnipage website below.

I know we are working on a project with OCR and we are having a pretty good recognition level. We are custom developers and worked with different APIs (including Adobe’s) within the years.
I do know some of the software out there are not doing a great job.
If you can explain better what you are trying to accomplish I may be able to help you.

isnt kofax the defacto standard for ocr at the onbase level? Secondly invoices are generally not hand written, if your gettting 50% success it may just need some tweaking.

Of course the cleaner the scan the better the ocr. I would look into pdf printers and not folders.
