Therapy has helped me learn a lot about myself — what I need, what I want, and what I avoid like a pile of dirty dishes. And it got me thinking… if the different parts of my life went to therapy — like, say, my job — what truths would come out? :eyes:

Or better yet, what would it force me to finally confront?

So let’s flip it to IT.
If your environment sat down on the therapist’s couch, what would it bring to light?

Let’s self reflect for a sec: what’s something in your IT world you know needs attention, but you’ve been quietly ghosting?

Great question @mariale-pulseway I am just 9 weeks into my new company and there is a TON going on. I think it would tell the therapist that it used to feel neglected, but now things are getting better. There is a silver lining around the clouds. Still a long way to go but it’s getting better.

I’d say “The voices won’t stop” is pretty spot on. From beeping alarms to ringing phones, IT is always a “ring the bell for assistance” gig.

Remember voice pagers?

You would all be standing around in a group drooling over a hotrod in someone’s garage,
feeling all kewl and macho , and then a little beep-beep - “Get some milk on the way home’” tiny voice would come out of nowhere…

I’m still pretty new here, but I’d say it’d have a lot to say about having abandonment issues…there’s a lot that was left neglected or unpatched that I’ve been steadily cleaning up.

I been at this IT gig for going on 17 years - higher education.

To quote the Grateful Dead - “What a long strange trip it’s been”.

“I never get enough attention until it’s too late.” She would say “I ask for and plead for help but I only get a quick glance until a component breaks.” She would also complain about the environment being too cold, too warm or too dry. She’s kinda sensitive.

“Why do they think that throwing agent after agent into my guts is going to make things better?”

Who knows the things it has gone through… glad we’re seeing progress tho!

Sounds like it needs a hug and some serious patch therapy

Doesn’t sound like a pleasant feeling at all

My environment is like a large extended family. The great-grandparent and great-grandchildren all live in the same large house. The great-grandchildren would no doubt be talking about how excited they are to move out on their own. The great-grandmother would be so happy with her big family all under one roof. Great-grandpa and grandpa would be out in the shed drinking moonshine just wanting some peace and quiet.

This is a great description. I feel like generational trauma will be top of the list on their therapy session
