Most frequent “violation” for me: grabbing my trusty punch tool to break down taped boxes.

I’ve done that  Then again just about anything with an edge including fingers have been used for that purpose. Keys are the most frequently abused though.

I use scissors to open boxes… just holding on to one side though, not actually as scissors.

What is the “right” tool to open boxes with? I don’t think I know that.

I usually us a tool on my key-chain that is actually meant to be a flat-head screwdriver to open boxes

Not IT related, I often… waaaay to often… use a teaspoon to make a peanutbutter sandwich.

butterknife as flathead screwdriver? screwdriver or knife as fingernail cleaner. most of my tools are not in arms reach so i use what i can unless i cant improvise…

Keys as box opener and letter opener as fingernail cleaner are probably my two biggest.

Wouldn’t that be box cutters?

I do the same @iwan.v.kanten
You can get more PB on the spoon.

Oh, yeah… maybe. Unless you are supposed to actually cut the boxes rather than the tape with them. I guess I should have thought of that.

Guilty of using keys, but once upon a time when the world still used desktops, we would stick a PCIe video card in each new machine we purchased so people could have multiple monitors (back in the XP days) and I would keep the blanks, because the edge of the aluminum was sharp enough to use as a box cutter, but not so sharp as to cause an OSHA incident

True, true…

I stopped using box cutters after they developed a lot of “negativity”. I have a few other options that are sort of handy… my preferred wrong tool punches above its weight class

Pretty certain that I’ve straightened more paperclips (to push reset buttons or eject optical discs) than I’ve ever used for clipping papers.

When repairing garden hoses, I’ve found that a 3/4" PEX-B crimp (or pinch) ring works far better than a hose clamp (on 5/8" garden hose). Doesn’t leave sharp, protruding edges and never comes loose. Side note: I prefer genuine rubber hoses with solid brass fittings. Vinyl hoses and aluminum fittings are junk; the aluminum will erode brass fittings through electrolysis.

On top of the server rack at one of my customers, there’s a paperclip that’s bent into a particular shape. This paperclip works better than the key does in the rack door. The rack key is kept in a secure location that’s annoying to access. Shhh… don’t tell them, they don’t know.

LOL they know now!!

I wouldn’t say “most often”, but perhaps one of the “most wrong” tools was the time I used a pair of Aviation Snips to trim my finger nails. LOL They worked surprisingly well. I did it at work, so I say it counts. I think I did it because I somehow ripped a nail while working, and that was what was available to fix it. Worked so well I did the rest.

I used to keep a set of fingernail clippers in my desk drawer for times when I snagged or totally ripped a fingernail while working, to either finish the job or at least clean up the torn bits…but it hasn’t happened in a minute. I should probably find a small pair for that!

I love it. My current box opener:

Probably the wrong tool I use most is Notepad, followed by Excel.

If it is Amazon paper tape, I punch it with a sharp jab, then do a quick rip back on the sides that meet. It is all in the wrist! This only works if the box is not full and there isn’t anything hard in it.

If you wanna talk software abuse, Access in a shared capacity or on a network server, used to run whole company databases, issue excel reports, and a whole boat load of other features better suited for a real DB program like SQL…

Hang on now.. which end do you use? Asking the real questions here
