Hi, y’all - Chad here. Here at Virtual SWHQ, some of us who work behind the community curtain have been talking lately about swag and rewards and prizes, and their future. So in that regard: What would be your favorite prize(s) if the budget was unlimited? Okay, so maybe we’re not talking about ice cream-colored Lambos and private jets, but still - what are some dream prizes you’ve thought of, or received? I don’t just mean swag, I mean actual prizes like laptops and TVs and kitchen mixers. Yes, I may just be listing things that I want, but that’s the idea here.
Have you ever won a “dream prize”? If so, I want to hear about it! There’s way too many options for a poll on this one, but let us know in the comments, and don’t hold back! Because you never know who might be listening…

IMO, I’m a sucker for gift cards. They’re easy to do and require zero thought. Then I can stash them and buy the new Barbie movie on DVD when it comes out and not spend a dime. Or since budget isn’t an option, I can buy the entire stock and then resell them for 500% MSRP and completely control the Barbie DVD market.
Beyond that - expensive tech items. Things like PS5’s, GPU’s, Steam Decks, laptops, nice monitors (not just some 1080p workstation monitor), that little hacking gadget (I forget the name of it right now), etc etc
Or a Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc Di2 bike

I agree with @dimforest about high-ticket items. But, I don’t care for gift cards, personally. Sure they help, but I’m a sucker for a swag bag of goodies. Also, think about nerdy items like lightsabers, Lego sets, replica swords from popular fantasy series, etc.

Gift cards are nice, but they’re not interesting for me. I love gadgets I can use for tech, everyday carry, outdoorsy/hiking or emergencies.

I agree with dimforest. Amazon gift cards & tech. I was just looking at Steam Deck, but anyway PS5, Xbox, TV, Laptops, Nintendo Switch, good headphones/headset. I mean since I have an almost one year old, I’m open to baby/toddler items, but obviously that isn’t an ideal prize for all. Haha. I guess that is where gift cards are great.
I agree with Ericwojo too about nerdy items! That’s a good one too!

Personally, something you would never buy yourself is the best swag. That is a tough one because typically that means something different to everyone and is not always something really expensive, just something you would not spend your own money on because:
-
Already have something similar that does the job
-
Something you want just to say you have it and will likely never really use it
-
Something that your spouse absolutely will flip if you spend money on it, but can’t complain if it is a gift.
For me, a weekend away at a nice resort, a tube amplifier or a X-box. The X-box in particular is something I have wanted just for racing games but would never spend the money on it and as my son has little interest, can’t use the excuse of buying it for him.

I like unique swag items that you can’t get easily. Gift cards and some popular tech items are nice too. A 10 day fully paid vacation to Disneyland or Hawaii wouldn’t hurt my feelings either.

Still holding out for a new grill; Green Egg / Kamado, Traeger, or a Weber Ranch Kettle 37" grill. Something to feed a large crowd.

I got to shoot a printer with a machine gun once in Texas. Right up there with my kids being born, certainly one of my favorite moments in life.

Hm. I must say that the prizes lately have been quite lackluster, for all giveaways or contests. Why should I spend an hour half watching something only to win ~$20? I’m sure all of our pay reflects that I can just go buy a gift card or whatever for that much. When the prizes hit ~$60 or so, then I believe they actually have some sort of worth to them. While I wouldn’t say I have a ‘dream prize’, I do wish they would be of more substance/quality at times. Gift cards are fun and open, easiest for all I think. High priced items would work well also I believe. (Grill, Kitchen Aide, etc.) And then one I haven’t seen yet, a getaway somewhere. Maybe a weekend somewhere that is local to the winner or such. Oh well though.
Other than that, … I think I’ll take a beverage - Maybe a coupon for unlimited Gin + Tonics.

Mercedes GL63 AMG.
More realistic nice yeti gear, north face apparel. Power bricks, usb hubs. The usual but little higher end.

For me it would be either the work office remake or a WFH office remake, meaning super cool chair, a gaming laptop setup, a curved 32 inch monitor, legit speakers for the set, a nice mechanical keyboard and MX mouse.
If we aren’t talking that kind. I would say almost any UCS Star Wars Lego set.

Number 1: A week vacation to some nice beach location like Cancun, Maui, etc.
Number 2: One of those high-end Star Wars Lego sets like the 10221 Super Star Destroyer
Number 3: CA$H. Not gift cards, but cold hard CASH.

As far as “dream prizes” go there is alway the car, house, vacation, one millllllion dollars, I would gladly take one of each. tax free, please. But realistically, a 3d printer or Wyrmwood gaming table would be amazing. I just backed a kickstarter for files to 3D print a gaming tabletop.

A list of my dream prize would be a Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, monitors, TV’s, laptops, a BBQ grill, grilling kit, a Fluke network scanner, toolbox, new smart phone, iPad, Eaton workbench, screwdriver toolkit, power tools, newest gen GPU, Yeti cooler, keyboard/mouse/headset combo, or a new truck.
