Every single day. Oh who hasn’t. Sorry

When my last two jobs got stressful I thought about it nearly every day.

I think I have bipolar job disorder. Most days, love my job. Some days, think about bouncing on the spot. At least the good outweighs the bad for the most part.
@michael9595 , totally agree. I sometimes envy the other departments I support, especially wastewater. They do morning stretches and a de-stress exercise before starting the work day.

Some days after being expected to control the universe, I am ready to gather shopping carts from the grocery store parking lot. The unrealistic expectations are only getting worse with the entitlement people think they have. Have a zoom meeting, click the link. That’s below your pay grade because I can’t automate. Just wow.

I have, and I have the scars on my wrists to prove it.
I’m in a pretty good place financially, few more years and I could probably retire so I’ve definitely thought about giving up IT so I’d have more time to spend writing, maybe actually clean up some of the things I’ve written and try publishing some novels.

Just about every dang day!!!
Stress mixed with imposter syndrome and unrealistic expectations drive me mad some days. I am working on controlling my stress lately. This career provides a lot of fulfilling things for me though too. That’s why I keep with it. That and I have worked so many crappy jobs so I know it can always be way worse.

I like working in IT, I wouldn’t trade it for any other job I’m aware of. I SURE as heck wouldn’t want to run a unionized public sector group like waste management for NYC!!

For the most part I love my work however I think I might leave it for something like say bacon or donut taste tester… I would definitely love that work much much better

I totally think about exiting I.T. , especially on days like today where a MS Update clobbered a handful of users laptops after the update didn’t finish before the user turned it off and I got a BITLOCKER recovery key request calls from pissed off users starting at 0600 this morning.
Its days like this that I want to pull the trigger and retire if it wasn’t for the health coverage…and bills…and food…and…
It would be so much easier saying "Welcome to W@lm@rt "

In a general sense, I love my career. I wouldn’t have stuck around this long if I hadn’t. But honestly, I’ve been looking ahead more frequently toward retirement lately. Partially due to my kids’ situation, but also because I’m getting closer and closer to having 30 years in K-12 (still another 7-8 years away from minimum eligibility, but most will most likely put in 12-13 on a practical level).
My guitar building is slowly growing to where I’m beginning to think I could actually make a real go of it, which is fueling these retirement thoughts.

I started in IT, then went into Security, CCTV and the likes, hell it all plugs into network cables at the end of the day so there’s a lot of transferable skills.
Now I’m in Motorsports comms, primarily on the IP Intercom side, because, again, it all plugs into network cables…

Every job of course has ups and downs, just yesterday a client who sells commercial real estate says “wish I was smart enough to fix this stuff” Without missing beat I blurted out “I would probably be considered smarter if I was selling expensive commercial property.”

I think about but then I think what would I do? My skills are mostly in IT at least the ones I can make a living on.
