I have two tablets where the user has logged into their O365 account and downloaded office to install it locally. It seems every 2 or so weeks, Outlook will not open. It has been uninstalled. Error when clicking on the shortcut - “The item ‘OUTLOOK.EXE’ that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.” The program no longer shows under the Start menu or in Apps.

I can’t seem to relate this to any Win10 updates or other causes. The only thing I’ve found on Google is that Win10 will sometimes uninstall anything it deems is “incompatible”

Maybe the user is uninstalling them by accident. My mother has actually uninstalled some applications before without realizing it.

Are the tablets locked down to prevent tampering?

Is it just Outlook and none of the other Office apps? That’s really odd. Did they run the online repair by a chance? I’ve heard of that causing it. I’d take one of those tablets for myself for a couple of weeks to see if you can replicate or at least gather some more info.

I had that with an end user just yesterday. He was trying to connect his office owned laptop to IMAP Gmail…in doing so some kid at BestBuy had him run the Offiice Repair…all in conjunction with getting a new phone…had to simply run repair again to get Outlook back…odd. I honestly did not give it much thought about the repair thing until I saw this thread. I just sorta figured the idiot at GeekSquad removed it…they are beyond moronic most of the time.

I’ve had this happen recently as well. Only Outlook is impacted. No other Office 2016 applications.

Sometimes it’s totally gone and a repair will fix it, other times I have to fully remove Office and re-install. Then other times, I just have to trace the .exe all the way back to the install directory and re-create the shortcut. It’s ridiculous.

Have they exceeded their install of 5 devices?

Do you see any errors in the logs that may be applicable?

Yes, that is exactly what’s happening. It is happening to myself and at least one other user. I’ll just come in one day and it’s gone while all the other Office apps still open. Nothing (that I know of) was updated. I checked recent updates and saw nothing new.

Nope, I checked that too.

Mine is one that it’s happening to. So weird. Now I’m also tracking the frequency. It has happened 3 times for me.

UPDATE - I looked at the event log and found a couple of weird things. Event ID 10010, Source: RestartManager Application ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE’(pid 8176) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID. I looked that up and it seems to be a permission error. BUT on my tablet I’m an administrator and am logged on as such so there shouldn’t be any conflict. The second error is attached. It’s about the Office 2016 Licensing Service.

I now had another user report Outlook being uninstalled. He had to run the Office uninstall tool from Microsoft before reinstalling from his O365 account because he got the error that another install was running. I also had that once.
