If your organization uses or is considering a free/open-source Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution, what's the primary reason for this choice?

  • Small Business/Startup Needs
  • Learning & Experimentation
  • Transparency & Security
  • Customization & Control
  • Cost Savings

  • Cost Savings: We wanted to minimize licensing fees and ongoing subscription costs.
  • Customization & Control: We need the flexibility to modify the software to our exact needs or integrate it deeply with existing systems.
  • Transparency & Security: We prefer open-source for its auditability, community-driven security, and less “vendor lock-in.”
  • Small Business/Startup Needs: We’re a new or small company with limited budget/resources for expensive proprietary solutions.
  • Learning & Experimentation: We’re exploring MDM and prefer a FOSS solution for learning, testing, or a proof of concept.

If your main reason isn’t listed above, please share it in the comments below! We’d love to hear your unique perspectives.

2 Spice ups

Coz you want to be locked in such that if that business want to start charging you, you have no choice but to pay whatever they now charges ?

As it is often said that there are “no free lunch”…why would someone offer something they spent time & $$$ to develop then spend more time, effort and $$$ to provide it for free ?

Then what are the exit strategies if you want to remove the MDM or what if the “free” no longer being offered or another Organization acquires the offering company (or developers) ?
