There have been a few posts in the community lately discussing such things as new Apple products like the iPad Pro and new Microsoft products like the Macbook Pro, sorry I mean Surface laptop (in no way a clone), and even Linux has had a look in with the new openSUSE release getting a mention. As often happens with these posts people have a tendency to slate or advocate their platform of choice.

The Windows vs Mac vs Linux debate rages on. Their fans continue to be at each others throats. The baseline of most debate is that Windows is clumsy and full of security issues, Linux is complicated and not user-friendly and Mac is all style without substance that burns your money for each and every thing. There are forums, dedicated websites, Facebook fan pages and literally millions of articles dedicated to this particular subject matter, however, this post is not to find out who is king, because frankly, I don’t care, I use the tools that fit the job. This post is just to brighten your mood on a dreary Wednesday my fellow IT wizards…

I’m finding much of this to be becoming largely outdated. Except for the price of Apple products, and my neckbeard.

I think he meant the Mac system themselves (i.e. hardware and the the core OS), not any of the open source software that they may bundle with the system.

Never quite got the point of the “X% of users use a PC” statistic because a) “PC” actually means “Personal Computer” which says absolutely nothing about the operating systems on them (a “PC” could easily be running Mac OS X … especially once they moved away from exclusively supporting their PowerPC architecture) and b) even a “PC” that was sold with and ran Windows could be running some flavor of Linux instead of Windows.
