Yep, I had exactly that at my last job, thankfully the company I work for now has a much more relaxed attitude and aslong as Im not wanting holiday at the same time as too many other people they dont have a problem with it.

Just had a staff meeting yesterday where that exact same statement was made about using before the end of the year. Seems to me this applies to everyone but me.

We have a pretty relaxed policy here. My boss says we can use our vacation whenever we want other than about the week before and the few days after a big election. We need all the help we can get during those times.

had a couple of places I felt that way at. I finally learned to tell people, okay, since we’re so busy I want a check for my time off. “but we don’t do that”, would be their answer. So, what you’re telling me is I have to take the time off, but since you want to play small minded bueracrat, I can’t. Not a great way to win friends and influence enemies, but it was nice way of telling them they were full of you know what. I’d always say, great, then let’s take it up the chain of command. Someplace up the line you always encounter some enlightened soul that sees things you way.

It’s usually not that bad here but I only have about a 6 or 7 month window that I can take time off. We’re an accounting firm so Jan 1 - April 15 is not allowed at all for anyone. And we usually get a lot of new hires and interns in the fall and in December so often I’m quite busy getting new computers built in November and December. So I usually have to take my vacation sometime between May 1st and November 1st.
