Has anyone else experienced this today?

All of our user machines took the free Windows 10 Upgrade back when that was a thing, this seems to be an isolated instance (for the moment) but one users machine is now showing as requiring activation.

Running the activation tool I get the following message:

I ran slmgr -dli and it informs me of the following which isn’t all that helpful:

As you can probably tell from the partial key this is the Windows 10 upgrade key which was/is assigned during the upgrade, I can cross reference this with my own machine which is still showing as activated, even after a forced check and my license status is “Licensed”

Seem suspicious it mentions Home Edition and now you have Pro edition. I do not believe the free upgrade gave the user Pro if they started on Home. Do you know the history of this machine?

Indeed I do this machine was running Windows 7 Professional originally, we’ve never had Home installed. It was an in place upgrade to Windows 10 Pro back in July 2016.

Disappointed at the lack of any actual magic in this post despite it being promised in the title.

A windows home license would not be found if a professional edition existed at the start - did it come with home and you’ve installed Pro retail on it?

Does the device have access to the internet?

It seems there is a bug. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-bug-is-deactivating-windows-10-pro-licenses-and-downgrading-to-home/

Don’t worry too much, It’s a windows activation server issue.

Thank you for sharing, Microsoft has just released an Emerging issue announcement about current activation issue related to Pro edition recently. This happens in Japan, Korea, American and many other countries. I am very sorry to inform you that there is a temporary issue with Microsoft’s activation server at the moment and some customers might experience this issue where Windows is displayed as not activated.

Our engineers are working tirelessly to resolve this issue and it is expected to be corrected within one to two business days

You do the following

run troublershooter.

go to store

windows is activated again after it finds a digital licence.

job done.

I was about to lose my mind this morning. I too, took the free upgrade from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Pro and noticed the watermark on my workstation and a couple others this morning. Glad I found this thread.

Additionally the blue message in the OP is the one you get when trying to run the troubleshooter.

First they release an update that deletes files, then their activation servers bug out and start deactivating Windows…

The last time a company was this insistent that consumers not use their product, we got New Coke.

I feel like I have gone from being a dragon slayer, to a fire fighter. All I do anymore is put out fires. Calgon take me away (just showed my age).

Does anyone know how I can subscribe to these “Emerging issue announcements”?
