Hi,

We are looking to license a Windows 10 Pro VM that is hosted on a Server. There will be one user who accesses this through the following method:

Connects to our Remote Desktop Server → Opens a remote session to the local VM we host on a separate server → Logs on to this via RDC

We were thinking of using Windows 10 Pro to license this but we want to know if this is correct or if we need a different type of license due to the fact they will be logging on remotely?

Thanks

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

There is no legal license for Win10 as a VM, unless in a VDI solution (at least 10 or 20 OS licenses, Win10 Enterprise with VDA etc). Not in the scope of 1 or 2 VMs.

There is also no such thing as Remote Desktop Server, if RDP Server then its Remote Desktop Services for servers. That is also another topic altogether

{"@type":"Person
adrian_ych
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/adrian_ych"}},{"@type":"Answer

This how-to is a little older, but I believe it’s still accurate:
