Good morning,

We have a Windows 10 PC that was upgraded to Windows 11 and now cannot access the windows shared folder on our network. Any help would be appreciated.

One user suggested SMB server and client both need to be enabled? But the only thing I’m seeing in Windows features is SMB 1.0 which we wouldn’t want to turn on, correct?

4 Spice ups

Network Sharing Permissions:

First, ensure that network sharing permissions are correctly configured on the Windows 11 PC. Here’s how: Right-click the shared folder and choose Properties. Go to the Sharing tab and click Share….Select Everyone from the dropdown menu and click Add. Choose Read/Write under Permission Level and click Share.

Check Firewall and Antivirus:

Temporarily disable the firewall and any antivirus software on the Windows 11 PC. Sometimes, security software can interfere with network sharing.

Ping Test and Error Messages:

Verify that the Windows 11 computer responds to a PING test. Run the following command on any Windows 10 PC: \Windows11-PC-HostName or \Windows11-PC-IP-Address. If you encounter any error messages, note them down.

Configuration Procedures:

Confirm that you’ve already tried the configuration procedures mentioned in this link:

Additionally, check the tip provided by “Philip Jordan” in the comments section of that page.

Map a Network Drive:

You can also access the shared folder using the “Map a network drive” option. This will mount the folder as a drive in File Explorer.

Remember that SMB 1.0 is outdated and poses security risks, so it’s best to avoid enabling it.

yeah, this all checks out, the weird thing is the user can log into a Windows 10 machine as themselves and access the share fine, but on Windows 11 they cannot.
