I’m working on updating our imaging process from Windows 10 Pro to 11 Pro. We currently use MDT to deploy images over PXE.

I don’t seem to have a Windows 10 media available in my Microsoft Admin Center (things got a little messed up after the move from the VSLC to the Admin center, including having a duplicate account where some of our on-prem software licenses ended up and that account has since disappeared).

Can I download the Windows 11 install from the MS website (Download Windows 11) and use that? I read somewhere the image available here is technically retail but it will still activate with a VL key. Is that true?

Or do I need to order a single Windows 11 license to get access to the media in my Admin Center? We usually go through TechSoup, but the last time I tried doing this with Windows Server, I never got a VL Key, due to the changes with CSP keys or something. I need to make sure my Windows clients will activate using existing Active Directory Domain based activation.

Thanks!

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
I’m working on updating our imaging process from Windows 10 Pro to 11 Pro. I’ve had to do this a few times now, and it ALWAYS comes down to having your VAR (whoever is selling you your licenses) intervene on your behalf…even if they say they’re not able to, tell them that MS is telling you that only they can, and hold them to it.

{"@type":"Person
Jay-Updegrove
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Jay-Updegrove"}},{"@type":"Answer
TechSoup should provide keys through the Admin Center same as CSP. Get a Windows 11 upgrade volume license through TechSoup or CSP reseller, and add them as partner to Admin Center using their authorization link: How do I authorize TechSoup as my provider for Microsoft? – TechSoup.
