Hello,
Today one of our user changed his keyboard language and just after that he lost all his windows hotkey except for copy and past.

At first i tought maybe for an X reason the hotkey got disable on the pc, i looked for all i knew that could cause those key to stop working : gpo, regkey, graphic properity but nothing.

Then I tried to reboot the pc and surprise ! I can’t. The only way to shutdown the laptop is by pushing power button and they propably alots of other thing that are not working properly that we didn’t notice.

The Os is freshly installed and it was working pretty well till the user change his keyboard config but I’m sure this is not the problem.

Thanks for your help and sorry for my english !

Can you log in as a different user?

remove the user account and recreate it.

The alt+ctrl+del is working on the logging screen, but after we are in a session it’s not working.
I will try to delete and readd the user tomorrow !

thanks

Try a system restore.

Additionally it may be a third-party application intercepting (and disabling) your HotKey requests.

Time to reformat and teach said user a lesson!

Try removing the profile first.

Login as an admin account

Control Panel → System → Advanced System Settings → User Profile Settings

Select profile of user and delete it.

If your admin account is disabled you can reactivate it using a Hiren’s boot disk.

If you are on a domain remember to type “ComputerName\username” when logging in.

This morning when the user tried to relog he was on a temp profil ( wich was not the case yesterday ) and after i removed the temp profil everything seems to work well.

Thanks for your suggestion

Finally it worked for 15-20 minutes…, again hotkey are not fonctional. I will try to flush the profil and see what happen. If you have any other suggestion keep going !

what is the new keyboard language?

resetting the user would be the best practice i think… restoring the pc would fix it as well…

French ( Canada ) is the keyboard language

Could be a rootkit or malware that did not reestablish itself right away, thus 15 minutes of working fine until it crept back into the profile. I would use Mbam and TDsskiller or the equivalent just to rule it out.

After a couple of test the only thing who seems to fix it is when we changed the option : put the hard drive to sleep after x minute to never. With this new config everything running well, but i looked on some other pc with same hardware and none of them had that power management problem. I doubt that was the real fix, but its working for the moment …

I reviving this thread since the laptop in question didn’t stop to lose some of his functionnality while in utilisation.

The problem : User losing windows short cut (ex: win+L)
when the probleme happen the user can’t change/close session or reboot/shutdown the pc

What we tried : Flush the user profil and réinstall
We tried with other user profil
RegKey/Graphic/GPO Option to look for win hotkey ( Everything was “normal” )
Réinstall a fresh OS
And we also looked for Virus/Rootkit/Malware

None of those solution above changed anything, so if you have any other idea in mind i would appreciate you to share them !
