Hey Spiceheads!

I’ve got a question for you!

I have a server with windows server 2012 r2 standard installed on it but there is an issue. Whenever it automatically updates itself, it never restarts. It shuts down… Any idea on how to change that so that it would restart? Also, is it common that sometimes when it restarts, the static ip set to it does not work? When it feels like restarting, say a after a power outage, when i go into the routers settings and check the attached devices, it has a totally different MAC address like A2:3A:00:00:00:00:00 etc… any ideas?

Thanks,

Ed

First off I would never recommend running automatic updates on servers. Instead install or at least reboot manually.

Also is this a virtual server? Do you have the most update drivers installed for your NIC?

This is just the physical server right now, Still planning on virtualization with Hyper-V. Also, i am not sure if i do

Still does it… :\ anyone?

Check and see if your vendor for your NIC has updated drivers.

Also if you are using WSUS ensure your update settings in your GPO is not set to shutdown or reboot the server.

Lastly if you are not using GPO’s to control your updates you can go into your control panel and set you updates to manual. This way you can update your server yourself.

That is something i will have to check out on saturday when i am able to physically visit the server, i have to re install the operating system due to some issues with it… I will post back when i have my answer.
