I started using a wireless mouse/keyboard a few of weeks a go…
Now, have been wondering, how secure are those devices?
Considering the information (including passwords) may not be send encrypted over the wireless connection.
What are your thoughts about this?

With the limited range of most of these types of devices, I don’t feel it is a risk in most places. But in some situations, I would be concerned. There is a good reason MS has enhanced Wireless Keyboard Security.

I find the hassle of wires not nearly so much so in office situations. There’s also the issue of batteries dying that don’t justify the need for wireless. Having said that, I have a totally bitchin’ Logitech DiNovo Edge and MX Revolution in my livingroom for my HTPC. However, that’s for entertainment and not work. I agree that in most situations the security of your wireless keyboard / mouse is not an issue. If it is, do your homework (see links above) and get one that makes you happy.

Range. But read Wikipedia.
It was shown at a Black Hat presentation back in 2004 that Bluetooth can be sniffed a mile away.
Reminds me of the old days when we caught a civilian contractor recording the sounds of the typewriter used to create the crypto keys. Since each key made a distinct sound during the mechanical operation of the key stroke, he was able to determine the characters typed. This guy had numerous valid keys recorded using this method. The thing to remember is that wireless signals and acoustical energy have no boundaries if the receiver is sensitive enough. If it is important enough to secure, then you have to look at all the possibilities of interception. Even a small undetected leak will sink a ship over time.
This is the one that ‘freaks’ me out.

Wireless mice I would not worry about but keyboards…
I don’t trust them.
