I was thinking of getting one of these as they are a good price (£250-£300ish). they look good and watching a Youtube video, they seem to sound good too.

Has anyone tried one and if so, how wide did the neck feel? I ask because I have fairly large hands and fingers.

I have been battering away on classical guitar as an acoustic for many years but I really wanted a steel strung guitar to noodle on, strumming and fingerpicking. I prefer to only use Electric guitar for rock lead stuff.

I will need to decide on colour as they have a few options but the blue or the black ones looks nice.

I have the APX500II, I bought it a few years ago as a bit of an impulse buy (I didn’t have an acoustic) and if it’s half as good for the money as this is, that’s a bargain.

Yamaha makes good stuff. I’m not sure about the nut width. If you’re used to a classical guitar, anything is going to feel skinny outside of something like the Guild concert size I recently got. They make those in a more affordable version too I think. If you’re a big guy, that body may feel a little small but then again if you’re used to a classical it may feel normal as those tend to be smaller than your average steel string.

TL:DR - Yamaha is good stuff.

The youtube I watched said its an improved upgrade from the 500 which was extremely popular.

For £300, I’d say it’s a bargain, I think the 500 was about that, sit’s in my office, has an inbuilt tuner, great value for the cost.

One tip though, don’t leave the battery clip in if you’re not going to be playing it for a while, I had to take it all apart and clean the contacts out when I didn’t! Might have been cheap batteries!

Yamaha acoustic guitars are great guitars for the price! The 600 has a thinner neck to make it easier to play and an onboard pick-up. I think it’s a great guitar and if I didn’t have a nice acoustic already, I would pick one up for myself.

Yamaha products in general are excellent products in their respective price ranges.

I have decided to wait and go into the Guitar shop in the City and actually see what they have as they seem to have quite a large selection, including this one.

I was just worried the slim neck might be smaller than I need for my hand size.

ALWAYS best to check guitars out in person.

OK, so I had a chat with a guitarist who was at a gig at my sisters on Saturday and he led me to Sigma guitars and now I have bought one of these: (comes on Monday!)

Sigma are very nice, made by Martin guitars

From what I have read and watched, these solid mahogany ones are quite distinctive in sound, suited to fingerstyle especially, rather than just strumming and that is what attracted me to it.

I have been bashing away on a classical for many years and will continue to for classical and Spanish type of stuff but I just want a brighter sound with a bit more sustain for folk/blues types of music.
