I am testing this backup with an Hp Storageworks 1/8 2g tape autoloader.

Surprisinly there isnt a very good documentation for this software.

  1. I have installed it on a workgroup server. I intend to use it to backup another workgroup server. Please how do i add that server to the backup server.

  2. When i try to run a back i get an error 1401- the job cannot find the media in the device.

there is a media in the device. yosemite see’s the device as Valid

Please if anyone has a proper documentation for this software it will be very helpful

What version of Yosemite are you running?

  1. You need to install the software on both servers and point the second install to the master install.

  2. As I suggested in your previous thread, are you sure the media is supported by the storage loader?

What tapes are you using? Please be more specific than LTO-5.

  1. HP LTO5 Ultrium 3 TB RW Data Cartridge, blue C7975A

I’m using the above media. i believe it is supported as per the documentation u showed me earlier.

Let me tell u what i have done so far:

First i tried using backup exec 2014, after along while i got it to work. i was able to backup 18gb of data to the tape.

then i realized Yosemite is quite cheaper. installed Yosemite, configured the tape, identify and formatted the tape.

immediately backup exec couldn’t see the tape anymore

tried to backup with Yosemite and i got the error 1401- the job cannot find media in the device.

anyway, when i used backup exec i configured bar-code on the media. i sincerely don;t know if that affected it

I’m running version Yosemite 10.3.00

Have you turned off the BE 2014 service? Running both services at the same time can cause issues. Also, have you tried any other tapes?

This isn’t a problem with Yosemite, it is either a problem with the tapes, which is why I asked if you tried multiple, or it is a problem with the storage loader. Do you have any errors within device manager? Do you have the proper drivers? Last option is to contact HP support.

Last thing I can think of, Have you setup your barcode rules within your storage loader?

it is working now
disabled barcode on backup exec and on the tape autloader

That was always an option. Wouldn’t really call it a solution though. You are going to lose a lot of functionality.

You are right. for now i just wanted it to work.

let me ask you something. Do i need to stick a barcode on the cartridge? is it a must?

if i don’t, it means i need to use the backup solution to configure barcode on the tape right?

that got me confused
