Hi,

After experiencing performance problems, Ive set up two installations - a central one with scanning turned off that is used for Helpdesk functions and a remote one purely to collect data that is forwarded to the central site.

Can someone clarify :-

Does scanning have to be enabled on the central site to enable the collection of remote data?

If I have IP ranges set up on the remote site then do I have to set those ranges up on the main site as well?

Do I just set up the schedule times on the remote site?

Installation is 7.3.00027

Thanks for your help.

Dominic

there two scans

  1. the discovery scan, this is done and controlled by the settings on the remore collector. eg 192.168.1.0/24 scan every 6 hours.

  2. The inventory scan. This is controlled by the central server and will be dont according to it’s schedule, informing the remote collector what iip/machines to scan.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for replying with clarification. Do I need then to have the same IP ranges defined on both the central server for the Inventory scan and the remote server for the discovery scan or is his information supplied by the central server from its own database?

No once the discovery scan has completed on the remote collector the inventory scan will use the ‘type’ of host to schedule in the 2nd scan. eg every 4 hours scan the servers…

Hi Martin,

That’s great thank you. I’ll leave it running now and see how the collection goes.

Thanks for your help.
