Red Cat boosts Black Widow drone production with ESAero deal

American drone company Red Cat is teaming up with Empirical Systems Aerospace (ESAero) to ramp up production of its military-grade Black Widow drone. The move comes as demand for the compact reconnaissance drone grows both in the US and abroad.

Teal Drones, a Red Cat subsidiary, builds the Black Widow, a small but rugged drone designed for short-range surveillance missions. The drone is already part of the US Army’s official drone program, giving it a key role in modern military operations.

To keep up with rising orders, Red Cat is turning to ESAero, a California-based aerospace manufacturer. ESAero’s facilities are AS9100-certified, which means they meet strict quality standards for aerospace production. This ensures the drones are built to perform reliably in the tough environments soldiers face.

“Getting the right manufacturing partner is key to growing our production without sacrificing quality, says Jeff Thompson, CEO of Red Cat. ESAero brings both the engineering know-how and the certified capacity Red Cat needs to deliver these drones quickly and efficiently.

ESAero has been working with Red Cat for over a year, helping develop both the Teal 2 and Black Widow drones. With over 130,000 square feet of production space and strong supply chain capabilities, ESAero is now ready to help Red Cat scale up output at speed.

Both companies stress the importance of strong, Made-in-America partnerships to meet the growing needs of the US defense sector. With ESAero’s support, Red Cat aims to get more Black Widow drones into the hands of American warfighters faster than ever.

“We believe this partnership will effectively and efficiently provide Teal the capacity they need to meet the production needs of their customers and the warfighter,” Andrew Gibson, ESAero’s CEO, sums up.
