Fitbit Versa 4

Besides a big health and exercise update for the Pixel Watch, Fitbit today announced updates for its existing smartwatches (Sense 2 + Versa 4) and trackers, like new clocks for Charge 5, Luxe, and Inspire 3.

In addition to removing two social features from the app, Fitbit is shutting down the web-based Fitbit Studio on April 20.

After first appearing on the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 in mid-December, the Google Maps app now fully works. 

At launch, Fitbit’s new smartwatches lacked any third-party apps, but that appears to be changing. Fitbit also recently released new Premium watch faces for the Sense 2 and Versa 4.

Sense 2 and Versa 4 owners can now download Google Maps for Fitbit, but the actual step-by-step navigation does not currently work.

Following Wallet support and the first update last month, Fitbit is getting ready to launch Google Maps on the Sense 2 and Versa 4. 

The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 are the first smartwatches released since Google took over, and while there’s still a lot to love, these smartwatches are major downgrades from their predecessors that are hindered by a focus on the Pixel Watch.

A month after release, Fitbit is rolling out the first Sense 2 and Versa 4 update today with a trio of welcome features.

The latest Fitbit smartwatches are the first available under Google’s reigns, and as such they’re adding support for a couple of key Google services. After launching Google Wallet today, we’re now getting a first look at Google Maps integration on the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4.

Google Wallet is seeing one of its first major expansions since its launch as it brings mobile payments to Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 as well as expanding into 12 new countries.

Google purchased Fitbit in 2019 to the tune of $2.1 billion in an effort to “invest more in Wear OS.” Almost three years later, we’re finally set to see the culmination of that purchase in the Pixel Watch, a smartwatch that merges the best of Fitbit with the best of Wear OS. But ahead of that launch, it increasingly feels like that long-awaited device is coming at the expense of dedicated Fitbit smartwatches. Here’s why.

Ahead of Google Maps and Wallet, a “Google Arts & Culture” watch face is now available on the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4, which started arriving for the first customers today.

The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 feature an interface heavily inspired by Wear OS 3, but they otherwise lack key features, like offline music storage, playback, or even control, while Wi-Fi is disabled.

With the Sense 2 and Versa 4, Fitbit debuted a new UI for its smartwatches that’s nearly identical to stock Wear OS 3 and, therefore, the Pixel Watch. 

Smartwatches and other wearables help build out an ecosystem of devices around our smartphones, but on the other hand, they’re also just one more thing to charge. This week, Made for Google partner Wasserstein has unveiled a new lineup of “Made for Fitbit” accessories for the Sense 2, Versa 4, and Fitbit Charge 5 that includes a Google Pixel charging dock.

Google’s acquisition of Fitbit at one point felt like a death knell for the brand’s smartwatches, but nearly two years after that deal was closed, Fitbit is announcing its first smartwatches under Google. The Fitbit Versa 4 and Fitbit Sense 2 are here.

It seems Fitbit is finally preparing to allow Google Wallet on its fitness watches, allowing it to join the existing Fitbit Pay.

We’ve reported on multiple occasions regarding Fitbit’s upcoming lineup of smartwatches and fitness trackers, and now we’re getting our best look yet at the Fitbit Sense 2, Versa 4, and Inspire 3.

9to5Google reported that Fitbit is working on a pair of new smartwatches in March and two months later revealed the product names, as well some elements of the design. We now have a detailed look at the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4.

We shared a first look at the Fitbit Versa 4 at the start of May while also reporting on its product name, along with that of the Sense 2. Additional confirmation of upcoming Fitbit wearables and their branding now comes from a familiar accessory maker.
