Your GA nomination of Atlantic Insight
[edit]
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Atlantic Insight you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. GenAi tag question
[edit]Hi. In this edit you mentioned heavy use of incorrect quotation marks
as a hallmark of GenAi work. I was wonder you meant by that. Was it just ”
use, or is it something else I'm not aware of? Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:20, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Ian, thanks for reaching out. I've picked out two things that when found together are basically an assurance that generative AI was used, that being the use of the "fancy quotes" as you mentioned, and seeing ?utm_source=chatgpt.com at the end of the references. I believe all generative AI makes use of those quotes in their outputs. However, I will note that I've since discovered that use of "fancy quotes" also happens when editors write their article in Google Docs and then transfer it over, as Google Docs automatically switches them. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if you think my tagging of the article was unjustified. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 19:36, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

NS1000 challenge ?
[edit]See Wikipedia:The Challenge series - like The Canadian 10,000 Challenge. If your interested in a smaller 1,000 Challenge for a province,User Dr. Blofeld can help set it up. All articles could be listed in both Challenges. Moxy🍁 04:41, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I've been thinking about those challenges for a while actually, the main reason I haven't gone for it yet is because I'm not sure how much it would actually do for encouraging contributions. I imagine most people interested in Nova Scotia are already chipping away at the articles without a challenge, and for me at least, I'd never remember to list them all... If it were to be styled as a de-stub-a-thon and there was interest from the wider Canadian WikiProject in participating I could see it being more effective, but I've gathered that the spirit of collaboration isn't always the strongest in our ranks. A while ago I threw together a basic idea for a Maritime content drive for the "important articles" of NS and NB that could potentially be turned into a contest, but that one is still on the drawing board. Let me know if you have any thoughts, MediaKyle (talk) 13:01, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Draft: Chisholm Academy
[edit]Hi MediaKyle,
Thanks for reviewing the draft for Chisholm Academy. I appreciate the clear feedback on notability and sourcing.
I’m reaching out to better understand how I can improve the article.
Chisholm Academy is an independent school in Oakville, Ontario that serves students with learning differences — every student at the school has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which is not common in most school environments. As demand grows for specialized education that supports students with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and dyslexia, schools like Chisholm are playing an increasingly vital role in the Canadian education system.
I’ve included multiple secondary references from sites like Inside Halton (which covered events at the school), OurKids.net, Goally, Smapse Education, and Oakville News. While these may not be major national outlets, they do reflect consistent, independent coverage across several domains (education directories, community media, and parent guides).
I understand Wikipedia has high standards for notability, and I want to respect those. I’m wondering — would further coverage from local media or an education-specific journal help establish notability in this case? Is there a particular threshold I should aim for?
Thanks again for your time and service to the project. I want to make sure I’m approaching this the right way.
Best Wishes,
MrVanDigital MrVanDigital (talk) 00:08, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @MrVanDigital, thanks for reaching out. Let me provide you with an assessment of the sources to try to make things clearer for you:
- Source 1: This is a primary source, presumably a listing generated by Chisholm Academy themselves. This does not contribute to notability, and an entire section is based off of this one primary source, which is not good. Details about the academy should be able to be backed up by a secondary source, if the academy is notable.
- Source 2: This is a routine, local news type story. This typically wouldn't contribute to notability, but could be used as a source for minor details.
- Source 3: The OurKids report here may contribute to notability. It's difficult for me to determine at a glance how independent this publication is. This is definitely a good source for details about the academy.
- Source 4: This article mentions Chisholm Academy moreso in passing, in that they're included in a list. This doesn't seem to be an overly reputable publication, from the look of their website, and I would question the independence of this source.
- Source 5: Another passing mention in a list, by local news. Doesn't contribute to notability.
- What I would aim for is finding any academic publications that discuss Chisholm Academy; or national news publications discussing Chisholm Academy, like CBC News or Global News. If you can't find adequate secondary sourcing to fully describe the academy, it's possible they may not meet the inclusion criteria. I should note that if you have any connection to Chisholm Academy, you should disclose this - it's not a bad thing if you are, Wikipedia just values transparency with such things. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 00:21, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
DYK for Joy Laking
[edit]On 31 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Joy Laking, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Joy Laking predicted in a school writing assignment that within ten years she would be making a living as an artist? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Joy Laking. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Joy Laking), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Tech News: The Wikimedia Foundation will publish a hub for experiments to showcase and get user feedback on product experiments; The Moderator Tools team will launch a new filter to Recent Changes, starting at Indonesian Wikipedia. The goal is to help Recent Changes patrollers identify potentially problematic edits. More updates from Tech News week 21 and 22.
- Abstract Wikipedia: A community-wide discussion for the development of Abstract Wikipedia is now open on Meta: where to store the abstract content that will be developed through functions from Wikifunctions and data from Wikidata. The discussion is open until June 12 at Abstract Wikipedia/Location of Abstract Content, and every opinion is welcomed.
- Temporary accounts: Admins, bureaucrats, or stewards will be manually granting access to temporary account IP addresses to users without certain extended rights. Previously, these users were gaining this right automatically. The decision to change this was made by the Trust and Safety Product team after discussing with almost 20 large Wikipedia communities and Meta-Wiki. See the full message about the change. In addition, the team is finishing work which unblocks rollouts on large wikis. A series of deployments will be happening in June. See the latest project update to learn about the satisfaction survey, related changes to features and tools, and more.
- Wikifunctions: Wikifunctions is deployed on five Wiktionaries: Hausa, Igbo, Bengali, Malayalam, and Dhivehi/Maldivian. Users of the five projects are now allowed to call on Wikifunctions' functions freely from their user interface.
- WikiGames: A daily trivia game called WikiGames is coming to the Wikipedia Android app. It invites users to test their knowledge by guessing which historical event happened first based on real events from Wikipedia's "On this day" content. The game's goal is to help new audiences discover a preferred destination for discovering, engaging, and building encyclopedic content. It has been gradually rolled out as an A/B test to 50% of users in English, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Turkish.
- Wikimedia Cloud VPS: We have introduced IPv6 to the cloud virtual network, enhancing the platform's scalability, security, and future-readiness.
- CampaignEvents extension: Two new features Invitation Lists and Collaboration List that allow organizers to promote events and WikiProjects on the wikis are now available.
