The Marine Corps works to make sure Marines have the opportunity to attend professional education and college classes of every kind. Continuing military education is a requirement for all Marines, and the pursuit of higher education is encouraged. Since Marines travel all over the world, there is a great degree of flexibility built into Marine Corps education programs, allowing Marines to pursue their educations whenever and wherever suits them. Programs offered vary from time to time, so see your recruiter for current details.
- Service Members Opportunity Colleges for the Marine Corps (SOCMAR) is a wide-ranging group of colleges and universities that cater to students associated with the American Military. SOCMAR schools offer standardized testing, credit for military experience, and standardized transfer of credit hours earned. Classes are extremely flexible, and are usually offered either on campus, on base, online, by correspondence course or through a special college study package. SOCMAR makes continuing your education easier no matter where you are.
- The Staff Non-commissioned Officer's Degree Completion Program allows non-commissioned officers with a rank of Staff Sergeant or above to go to college full time, temporarily assuming inactive duty status. After the completion of the degree, active duty resumes.
