GeneralA GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP
He took his own queen sized mattress with him to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. He suffers from poor sleeping habits and wanted to make sure this did not affect his preparation. "I did not do well on the twin bed in Vancouver. [The mattress] is really high, it's a legitimate bed. Getting it here was a pain, it weighs 25 pounds. I literally packed a suitcase just for the bed, but it's definitely worth it." He later moved out of the athletes' village into a hotel in order to focus on his individual events. (nbcsports.com, 11 Feb 2014, 03 Feb 2014)
RETIREMENT
He plans to retire at the end of the 2013/14 season. He spoke of his emotions after competing in his final grand prix, the 2013 NHK Trophy in Tokyo, Japan. "So proud to be on the podium, but so sad to see my final grand prix event as a competitor come and go. This sport and the family I've created along the way have meant everything to me, and I will greatly miss all that comes with being a part of this prestigious series of competitions." THE JEREMY ABBOTT FUND
He maintains the Jeremy Abbott Training Fund that he set up in 2005. The fund provides financial assistance to boys skating competitively for the Aspen Figure Skating Club in Colorado, United States. "Growing up in Aspen and being one of the few guys figure skating in an ice hockey town wasn't easy, or cheap. The cost of skating, even from the beginning, can keep families from participating in the sport. I wanted a way to help get, and keep, younger boys in figure skating and this was a small way to start." (figureskatersonline.com, 17 Nov 2012)
