In the past a number of options have been considered for extending the tube into South London. None of these options is actively being considered at the present time. The proposals considered in the past include the feasibility of extending the Victoria line to either Herne Hill and/or Tulse Hill to remove the constraints on service capacity at the southern end of the line. This work indicated that, given the very high cost of such extensions, there was not a sufficient business case for the scheme Following the London Plan we have been working on sub regional development frameworks, which will consider current transport capacity and future growth across London including south London. Following this work TfL will consider any conclusions relevant to address current and future capacity problems. Any options would need to be prioritised within the available funding based on their benefits to London.
